BIG? NOT YET

Dear subscribers,

Welcome to a less-lyrical-more-cocooning newsletter. Which is not, at all, an instrumental issue. Instruments and samples play the core part here – who said they were backing vocals? The six artists appearing below have a hook, they really do. We curated them for you, now it’s your turn to explore them yourself!

Enjoy!

Instrumental universe from down-under. Surprise Chef shows in All News is Good News an interesting proposal full of thrill and a suggesting atmosphere, as when you firmly step out to the street searching for new horizons and adventures. If you're a youngster suffering from 70s nostalgia, it's time to cheer you up with their so-called "cinematic soul".

Multiple sounds from a near galaxy landed on Sirens of Lesbos' minds, and they decided to turn it into a psych, jazzy narrative. The band, in a constant creative swirl, begeted pieces like the elegant Zeus or the dubbish turn in We'll Be Fine, our highlight. SoL are both mystery and the will to travel far away through eastern instruments and a never ending unpredictable rythm palette.

Disco. Soul. Funk. Three fantastic music genres. Dan. Reece. Luke. Three musically-talented brothers. Multiplying them together resulted in Rayowa, an Essex-based artistic project that will make you groove and dance non-stop. We are not big fans of comparisons, but they inevitably resemble the likes of Chic, Jungle or Parcels, which can only mean good news. Fun is 100% guaranteed with their nine-people live formation.

Fun catchy fact: Thea Gustafssons', aka Becky and the Birds, interned for Avicii after attending Swedish songwriting academy, Musikmakarma. Don't expect any EDM, though. Listening to her latest EP is like entering a dreamy atmosphere with blurry figures that perfectly fit in that space-time place which is Trasslig. Soothing melodies by high-pitched soulful vocals and back harmonies that could remind you to some of Frank Ocean's tracks.

"Oh wow, this sounds pretty hectic" – someone listening to Dogleg for the very first time. And it's true, their songs become fast-paced punk-flavoured journeys that can go in any direction at any given turn. In fact, vocalist Alex had written on his guitar the words "play fast", as a sort of guideline that should always be followed. They haven't broken this rule yet; what they do end up breaking are their guitars' strings at every gig.

The Spanish duo r.e.a.l beautifully combine electronics with soft pop lyrics and a touch of experimental music. Their melodies’ rhythm transport us to a new world filled with a techno atmosphere, mild house music and a killing aesthetic. If you are missing the clubs as much as we do, play their latest single “Self-care” and enjoy the ride!
